Believed to be the starting point for Jesus’s heroic entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, Bethphage is located between Bethany and the Mount of Olives in the holy city. The Hebrew name of Bethphage, which means "house of unripe figs or green", recalls that in this region, Jesus made a fig tree wither without fruit. The religious site is marked by the Bethphage Church, which contains a stone traditionally identified as that used by Jesus to ride the donkey at the start of his march in Jerusalem.
