Palm oil is almost everywhere - we wash with, brush our teeth with it, and consume it in bread, butter, ice cream, and most packaged food products. The growing demand for the oil has drawn the interest of manufacturers, who are setting up plantations in Cameroon, Indonesia, and Malaysia amongst other countries. But researchers fear that the production has devastating consequences on the rainforest and could have very well caused the Ebola outbreak. Is there a viable alternative for this ingredient or will we continue to consume in spite of its high saturated fat levels that is a major reason for cardiovascular problems?
